Our first party took place on the 3rd of October 2021, but the decision to start organizing parties under the Drum & Beer name was taken in August 2021. And that's what we want to celebrate, the moment when the project started to take shape. Moreover, we'll be partying in La Source Beer Co., and what best place could there be to celebrate our birthday than one of Brussels' finest craft microbreweries ? To celebrate our birthday, we wanted to show you the talent of the people in our team, which is why everybody on the line up is part of our team (except Aymya, we'll explain why below). You will thus hear all styles of Drum & Bass through the night, each artist taking you on a trip through his preferred subgenres. Line up: James Marvel Aymya Dee Faze & MC Despair Obvyss Cellarman, Initial & Seka As headliner we've got James Marvel, the only one in the team to have produced a track that reached number 1 on Beatport! We met him at Kompass a few years ago when Chase & Status were playing right before him. We loved his set, had the opportunity to compliment him about it, and immediately hit it off. His intelligence, wittiness, his love for political criticism and his ability to speak French, Dutch and English closely mashed together definitely sealed the deal, and he quickly became one of our favorite conversational buddies. Our paths have continued to cross regularly, and he chose to become resident at Drum & Beer after playing for us at La Fabriek in February of this year. He's planning to play a liquid to dancefloor set that'll make your feet and ass move. We've invited Aymya to end the night, replacing Whyam'me who isn't able to come. We wanted a worthy Neurofunk replacement, and we wanted a woman, as all the other artists on the line up are men, and showing that women can DJ as well as men is important to us. Aymya has been supporting Drum & Beer for a long time, she's already helped us behind the scenes, we've worked with her when we helped organize Anticorp, and we've wanted to invite her to play at Drum & Beer for a long time. We are thus very happy to give her a spot on this line up. Dee Faze, the president of our board, is the most experienced person on our team, in terms of age, but also in terms of deejaying and organizing events. We invited him to play at our very first event, at "Au Suisse" on place Poelaert, and have loved him ever since. Honest, smart, fun, he always says what he thinks, and chooses the right words to make you understand what he means, without feeling attacked. He's planning a "pumping" set that'll evolve within the heavy subgenres of DnB: Jump Up, Dancefloor & Neurofunk. He'll be accompanied by his good friend MC Despair on the mic. They've played together a lot as they complement each other very well, and have since developed a great synergy. Obvyss, previously known as Jordy, has joined our team very early in our story. He came to the very first party we organized, and asked if he could play at one of our future events. He's so adorable that we've since completely integrated him in the Drum & Beer family, and you'll see him help out at most of our big events. He's one of the nicest, most voluntary and willing to help person we know. And he's becoming a great DJ too, as he practiced a lot these past years and has severely leveled up his game. He'll be playing a Deep to Neuro set, so we put him at a much better time slot to let you go wild to his mixing technique. Seka, Initial and Cellarman will play a long opening set together, showcasing the diversity of sounds we like to hear at Drum & Beer. Seka is one of the best DJs of our team, and one of the best scratchers active in the DnB scene. You will probably never meet anyone who searches so much for musical perfection when building a set or scratching. His desire is clearly set on delivering the most perfect sound, the smoothest transitions, taking you on the most fantastic journey traveling from liquid rollers to tearing neuro stabs. We met him shortly before starting Drum & Beer, invited him to play at our second event, and have loved him ever since. Seka is a bit shy, loves to help, has a very good ear for music, noise, and people, has a very fair sense of judgment and a good sense of humor. He's definitely one of the people we most like spending time with. Initial is the most active member of the Drum & Beer team (after Tifanie, Cellarman's wife, who you won't see perform cause she hates being in the spotlight, but who does so much behind the scenes, in particular supporting her husband's unusual ideas. You'll see her taking care of people at every event she goes to, and helping out every time there's a need). We met Initial at the second Drum & Beer event, and invited him to play at the fourth. We soon found out that he lived close to us, was a vinyl magician, couldn't say two sentences without slipping a joke somewhere, and was always positive, helpful and supporting. Cellarman then asked Initial if he would teach him to spin vinyl, which he accepted. A weekly habit thus began in November 2022, spinning vinyl together for approximately four hours at his place, then supper and board games at Cellarman's, which created a strong friendship between them. There are no strong enough words for expressing our love for Initial. He's even conquered the whole family, quickly becoming one of our kids' favorite adults. Tifanie and him are present at nearly every Drum & Beer event, always ready to help out, making sure everything runs smoothly. They are Cellarman's rock. Cellarman is the founder of Drum & Beer. He's the guy with the love for DnB and for beer, who had the desire to organize regular DnB parties in Brussels, who came up with the name, and who handles nearly all the organizational and administrative work. Helping others have fun, discover music, living special moments, and sharing his love for music and dancing, are his primary motivations for doing it all. He loves to meet new people and listen to their stories, so come say hello when you see him (but make sure to have plenty of time). To celebrate our birthday in style, and because La Source has enough space for it, we decided to bring the Aleph Dub Sound System to power the music. It's a pretty big system that's most often used for Dub music, but it's good for DnB too, as Dub is a big part of DnB's roots: it's where the basslines come from. Luke, the owner of the system, is a super friendly guy, helpful, independent, who loves to take care of his plants and animals. He contacted us in March 2024 as he was looking to meet people involved in the DnB scene, so we met and immediately appreciated each other. We already used his sound system for Cellarman's 39th birthday in the old dod shop at Madou. La Source Beer Co., where the party takes place, is a creative craft microbrewery, located in Be-Here near Tour & Taxis, that's been active since October 2019. They produce a large range of beers: IPAs, sour & wild beers, seasonals, barrel aged or classic styles revisited make the variety of their production. We will be partying in their brewpub, a really nice space that has already hosted many events, from food pairings to metal concerts, from board game evenings to dub parties. Their bar serves 20 different seasonal beers, 5 of which are served straight from their tanks! We've already tasted most of them, and we can easily say they have the largest range of tastes we've ever seen ; even people who don't like traditional beers will find one they'll like. And if you're hungry, they sell delicious homemade pizza until 10pm. La Source is managed by really nice people who live their passion. They're clearly of the alternative creed, work consciously, keep the place very clean, and share most of our values: quality, respect, tolerance, sharing, fun, transparency, integrity. They also have a nice terrace, which closes at 10pm, but they sadly don't have the authorization to play music on it. Just in front of their entrance is an indoor roller track, on which you can roller skate for free if you bring your own rollers, or you can rent rollers in the shop next to the brewery. We kindly ask you to respect the premises (no stickers or tags where it clearly isn't tolerated), and to support the bar by consuming what they sell and not bringing your own drinks. La Source Beer Co. is easily accessible by car, public transport and train. Car: located outside of the center in a neighborhood that is easy to drive in, you should be able to find a street parking spot nearby without having to drive too long. If your car isn't allowed in Brussels' LEZ (Low Emission Zone), we recommend to park it at Heysel's parking C and take the metro at the "Roi Baudouin" stop. Bus: 46, 86, 88, N18, stop at "Andrée De Jongh" (1 min. walk) Tram: 93, stop at "Moorslede" (12 min.), or 51, stop at Vanderstichelen (14 min.) Metro: 6, stop at "Pannenhuys" (9 min.) Train Stations: Tour & Taxis (9 min.), Bockstael (15 min.), Nord (26 min.) Free entrance DJs from 8pm to 3.30am → The bar stays open until 6am so you can stay until the public transports start running. Keep peace, love, unity & respect in the air. Abusing alcohol is dangerous for your health. Please drink responsibly. Visual by Benjamin Reggers.
