Fascinated by natural elements and their ability to create images, sensations, and geometric forms, with Mirage Damien Jalet delves into the illusions that sometimes disrupt our optical perceptions and sketch out multiple ways of perceiving the world. Since VESSEL (2016), the finesse of Kohei Nawa’s plastic writing operates a dialogue with the choreographic lacework created by the Belgian choreographer. The duo draws its inspiration from study of flora and fauna and anatomical observations. Thus the balletic form slips into materials that emerge in the course of the tableaux, alternately featuring lights, glittering pigments, vaporous smoke, thick darkness or bright colours. The space created by Mirage opens up our imaginations, conveying with a poetic slant the subtle movements animating the being as a whole. It’s a vertiginous plunge into a constantly renewed sensory environment.
