In 2010, the Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter made his mark with Political Mother, a contemporary ballet with rock music energy, and ensemble pieces that generated insurrectional force. Revived several times since its creation, this work is now reborn in a new form: Political Mother REMASTERED, to celebrate twenty years of the company with its choreographer, now the co-director of Montpellier’s Agora, Cité Internationale de la Danse. Against a backdrop of mesmerizing electro music, punctuated by extracts of Bach, Verdi and Joni Mitchell, the performers pulsate in the void, vigorously leap and twirl in a farandole dance. In an unreal cinematographic atmosphere, a joyful and rebellious group is revealed. This human fresco, which seems to be moved by urgency, deploys strengths and vulnerabilities, detonating a concentrate of fascinating emotions.
