At the intersection between his position, detached from artistic production, and the reflections that have arisen from his activity, Jean Luc Ducourt is taking on the challenge laid down by the conference : conceiving and defining dance, formulating its journey through the history of art – in parallel with painting and with music –, analyzing nomenclature and conventions in the light of contemporary language. Having performed for figures including Susan Buirge and Régine Chopinot, a dancer then an artistic collaborator with the Rosas company, a devotee of Merce Cunningham, he approaches the concept of form from the various angles of his Circonférences du Geste in order to “examine a material and its possibilities” : the body as space, space as a body.
