Jean Brusselmans The Artist at Work

This exhibition has been made possible thanks to an exceptional group of donations and bequests from Brusselmans’ heirs — more than 300 drawings, 22 paintings and numerous archival documents, all of which have now entered the collections of the RMFAB. Among the works on display are a Chinese print from the artist’s personal collection and an embroidery made by his wife after one of his drawings — intimate details that reveal the man behind the work. This presentation offers a unique opportunity to explore Jean Brusselmans’ creative process from a new perspective. Since 21 May 2025, the Spilliaert Room has offered visitors an immersion into the poetic and mysterious world of the Belgian draughtsman and illustrator Léon Spilliaert. This new space also hosts temporary presentations of works on paper and pays tribute to Spilliaert’s exceptional contribution, while placing his work in dialogue with that of other artists represented in the Museums’ collections.
