In the historical art of tapestry, a lattice of threads is interlaced to create patterns and symbols, to give form to characters, presenting a range of flamboyant colours revealed through painstaking composition. Bryana Fritz and Thibault Lac, in their second collaboration following on from Knight-Night, have adopted as a backdrop the enigmatic tapestry La Dame à la licorne (The Lady and the Unicorn) to weave an allegorical performance evoking friendship, affection, courtly love and other earthly pleasures. Guiding us through the six wall hangings forming the medieval work, they invite us to spend a moment under the banner of desire, on a decadent journey in a florid ‘millefleurs’ setting. The interplay between interconnections and sensual pursuits generates disruption in the figures’ incarnation, all passing through the bodies of these two virtuoso performers, never at rest. The Lick-Horn canvas presents an incursion into a world of multiplicity, in which all the senses are invited to open up, to come into contact, to cohabit.
