Marie Vermeulin

"The discovery of this cycle was a real shock. How can one remain unmoved by this gigantic musical, poetic and philosophical fresco, offering both the most intimate pages and the most universal ideas?" These are the words of pianist Marie Vermeulin about Das Jahr, Fanny Mendelssohn's large-scale piano cycle, which she performs as part of Mendelssohn Day. This masterful work gives musical form to each month of the year through a remarkable range of styles, from barcarolle and capriccio to Lied. Chorale quotations such as Christ ist erstanden and Vom Himmel hoch also appear throughout the cycle. More than a poetic depiction of the seasons, Das Jahr offers a journey into the depths of human experience through a unique emotional palette. This concert is suitable for people of all ages. To ensure the best possible experience for both the audience and the artists, we kindly ask you to remain quiet throughout the concert.
