Nostalgia for the Light

About this event

What can the stars teach us about memory? In Nostalgia for the Light, Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán draws a parallel between two searches taking place in the Atacama Desert: that of astronomers observing the farthest reaches of the universe, and that of families searching for traces of loved ones who disappeared during Pinochet's dictatorship. Through this connection, the film explores our relationship with time, memory and history. After the screening, Belmémoire, a local association based in Evere, will join us to reflect further and discuss the questions raised by the film. The evening will continue over drinks — the first drink is on us — with empanadas prepared by Belmémoire available for purchase. The Romain Rolland Library will also offer a selection of books related to the film's themes, inviting everyone to continue exploring and reflecting. An evening to watch, listen, exchange ideas and bring cinema, literature and memory into dialogue.
