In 1949, George Orwell completed what would become his last and most important novel: 1984. ORWELL: 2+2=5 delves into the final months of Orwell's life and his visionary work to explore the origins of the disturbing concepts he introduced to the world through his dystopian masterpiece: doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, the omnipresent spectre of Big Brother... socio-political truths that resonate even more powerfully today. The documentary explores the life and career of the British writer, drawing on Orwell's writings, letters and novels, with particular emphasis on 1984 and its film adaptations. In doing so, it creates a chilling parallel between events of the past fifty years — with a particular focus on recent years — and a world of dictatorship in which Newspeak reigns supreme.
