About this event
Frédéric Chopin's most defining works might well be the 21 Nocturnes he composed between 1827 and 1846. Chopin took this genre, introduced by the Irish composer John Field, to unparallelled heights. In these contemplative piano pieces inspired by the nocturnal poetry of Novalis and Tieck, Chopin explores the night without words. Beneath a sweetly flowing melodic line in the right hand, the left hand unfurls a refined and technically challenging accompaniment. With his delicate touch and subtle musicality, our portrait artist Pavel Kolesnikov draws the night from a grand piano as no other pianist can.
