In a single, powerful performance, a woman revisits her life story and transforms the hardships she has endured into a theatrical piece. Samar dreamed of becoming an actress and a mother in Damascus. Her plan unfolded as expected until 2011, when she was arrested in front of her two daughters, Lynn and Malak, for taking part in humanitarian actions during the Syrian revolution. Imprisoned for more than three years, she lost everything. Her career was shattered, her daughters found refuge in Belgium, and the political threat made her life there untenable. She then embarked on a long journey to join her children. What fate does history hold for the most fundamental bonds? How do you rebuild an artistic identity after being imprisoned and exiled? Alone on stage, yet not quite, Samar Kokash engages in dialogue with a voice that narrates, questions and directs, against which she defends the idea of reconstruction. By rejecting both pity and excessive compassion, SAMAR portrays a life transformed by human choices, with the courage to carry on, despite everything. This show is currently in development; you will attend a performance followed by a discussion about this stage of the creative process. Coproduction Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles
