Buster Moon owns a theatre on the verge of bankruptcy. His shows have never attracted much of an audience, and the building itself is threatening to collapse. Hoping to save the theatre and restore it to its former glory, Moon decides to organise a major singing competition. However, a typo in the announcement increases the prize money from $1,000 to $100,000, attracting a crowd of animals eager to take their chance and make their dreams come true.
