With the final notes of Sufi Night still echoing through Bozar's corridors, Aqnazar Alovatov will strike some new ones. Together with Ensemble Navo, he brings traditional music from his homeland, Tajikistan, to Bozar. More than half of this deeply mountainous Central Asian country, situated between Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, lies over 3,000 metres above sea level. It was at these high altitudes that haunting melodies emerged, with lute-like instruments such as the rubab and setar taking centre stage. Ten years after their last visit, maddoh vocalist Aqnazar Alovatov and Ensemble Navo return to sing us awake during Sufi Morning.
