The Field Recording Duo

JD Zazie and Peter Cusack both play field recordings in ‘live’ performances and music. We are interested that the recordings remain in their original form without too much change. When recognisable the recordings tell their own stories and narratives but, in combinations and juxtapositions, they can be very playful and surprising. By their nature field recordings have much spatiality and depth. They are very effective at creating vivid images in a listeners’ imagination. This comes out very strongly in the duo’s performance and is part of their interest in choosing the recordings played. They wish to give the impression of spaces between music, storytelling and sonic film making. Peter and Zazie are also very happy to take part in talks and discussion, or facilitate workshops or soundwalks.
