How would beings arriving from within the solar system and landing on our planet go about entering into contact with us ? “How would they feel, faced with our irresistible urges? Our inconsistencies, our obsessions ? Would they want to be like us ?”, wonders Patrick Bonté who, in accordance with the company’s principle of rotation, has created this new work. A group of extra-terrestrials visiting Earth tries to adopt humanity’s codes in order to examine our behaviour. Dreams, fantasy and restraint come into play, while the resemblance is finessed, and this strange familiarity veers off into anguish. An echo chamber for the chaos of our era, and for its ills, these Variations sur les passions humaines pull apart our ruined relationships, and displace our disintegrated dynamics, presenting an opening to embolden “impertinent and unrestricted speech”.
