What if we decide to stay together? What if we make the radical choice not to retreat into our own certainties, but to keep searching for what binds us? Two friends can no longer bear to be together, but neither can they bear to be apart. In a last-ditch attempt to salvage their friendship, they search for the roots of their conflicts and for ways to overcome them – or at least, to understand them. For how can we clash so fiercely with someone we care about so deeply? How far do we have to step outside of our own comfort zones to truly understand the other person? And do we even want to? Suzanne Grotenhuis and Freek Vielen form the theatre company De Nwe Tijd and have been friends for over 20 years. For this production, they delve into their personal history and take to the stage together, carrying a load of old grievances and fond memories. Zeg me hoe het moet is a funny, uncomfortable, and intense search for connection and sincerity. For all friends who cannot understand why they sometimes can't stand each other; for all children who no longer speak to their parents; for all couples torn between breaking up or continuing to look for ways to carry on together.
