Discover the paintings of Jess Sutton, an artist from Uccle, from Thursday, September 17, through Friday, November 6. Jess Sutton was born in England and settled in Belgium in 2011. Her paintings are inspired by landscapes, the sky, and the botanical world. The sky has such freedom. The clouds drift unchecked as they cross different countries and continents. This shared space has an incredible way of becoming a kind of mirror, going beyond the visual by being able to both reflect and create mood. These skies are always attached to a moment, which then becomes a memory. Translating them using paint shifts them. The wisps of time that the wind whisks away, hover. Becoming static they gain a second life. They also gain a title, the weight of the paint and canvas and its support: they gain gravity. They start a new journey with a new meaning and its attached memories, for whoever is looking at them brings with them their own stories about the sky. Observations | Waarnemingen, is a short, experimental film by artist Jess Sutton in collaboration with The Royal Meteorological Institute, Belgium and Ennea sounds. The film explores our personal connection with the sky through people who know and understand it so completely; scientists working at the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium. The sky unites and touches us all on this fractured planet. As it crosses borders and boundaries, we explore the precious poetry of this shifting, collective territory and discover the direct impact that climate change is having on the planet.
