MILES AHEAD Celebrating 100 Years of Miles Davis

How can we pay tribute to the great Miles Davis with two saxophones? For the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis’ birth, Stéphane Mercier and Vincent Mardens take on an ambitious challenge: to explore Miles’ extraordinary musical journey, from his earliest recordings with Charlie Parker through the different periods and musicians that shaped his career. Stéphane Mercier plays the C-melody saxophone, while Vincent Mardens plays tenor, alto and soprano saxophones. Together, they revisit Miles’ music from their own perspective, supported by a dream rhythm section. Across two sets, Miles Ahead travels from bebop to hard bop, through the music associated with Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane, with a nod to the remarkable collaborations with Gil Evans, before moving towards jazz-rock and fusion. Two saxophonists, a great rhythm section and almost half a century of music to explore in just two sets — something of a Mission Impossible!
