About
Le Théâtre Royal de Toone is the only traditional Brussels marionette theatre still in activity. Its line runs back to around 1830, when Antoine Genty opened a puppet theatre in the Marolles; the company now plays in an impasse off the Rue du Marché aux Herbes, where each puppeteer inherits the name Toone. The repertoire adapts classics — Les Trois Mousquetaires, Le Cid, Dracula, Cyrano — and is performed in Brussels dialect as well as French.
