Rossicontemporary presents eight terracotta sculptures by Seyni Awa Camara (Senegal, d. early 2026), a self-taught, unclassifiable artist celebrated as one of the most significant figures of the Senegalese contemporary art scene. The show brings together three large protective figures - a teeming maternity scene and two hybrid totemic creatures - and five pieces inspired by everyday life, combining domestic animals and modes of transportation. Camara practiced direct modeling by hand, without sketches or armatures, firing the pieces outdoors and immersing them red-hot in a fermented plant bath for their characteristic dark, reddish patina.
