𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟔 ::: 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐢 Belgian porphyry cobblestones were hand-carved until the 1970s by the cayoteux, quarry workers from Quenast, Bierghes and Lessines. Mechanization made that manual labour obsolete: today, crushers and screens metabolize the landscape at a continuous pace, grinding the magmatic column that cooled 420 million years ago into new mountains of crushed stone. Drawing on a period of observation in Brussels and the quarries of Wallonia during her residency at Q-O2, Florencia Curci explores the hand’s gesture upon stone as a bodily limit to the transformation of nature, a limit that no longer operates in mechanized production. She carries that loss of the body in labour over into sound production to observe and question how the body disappears from the sonic scene as well. As the end of her residency, she will present a sequence of pieces for voices, hands, stones, microphones, field recordings and speakers. Florencia Curci is a sound artist, researcher and curator working between experimental radio, sound art and territorial inquiry. She founded the Sound Art Center in Argentina and RADIO CASo, an online space bringing together sound art and experimental music from Latinoamerica. Free - 18h - Q-O2

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕 In 2027, Q-O2 will host 20 residencies of which 10 for international and 10 for local artists (living in Belgium) working with, on or around sound. We are open for artists, art workers and theorists who wish to work on a research-oriented project (please mind that we do not organise residencies directed at production, nor are we a rehearsal space). Duos are possible, and exceptionally small groups too. We offer a work studio and material, a creative and communicative environment, and the possibility to present your work to a public and/or propose a workshop. For international residents we provide accommodation in a shared apartment and a contribution to travel expenses of max 200€. A small subsistence budget will be reserved for all artists who do not come with other funding. To apply, please send a concise project proposal of not more than one page, a permanent link to your website or other secondary information (no temporary links) by September 15th to info@q-o2.be, stating “Residency27 – your name” as subject. Make sure that after sending the application you receive a confirmation of reception by email. Please also provide where you would be traveling from, how long you would like to stay (4 to 6 weeks; a period of more than 4 weeks we can not guarantee), and specify your interest in Q-O2 as a working environment.
